During the days of the Italy Major in Rome, the International Federation’s Research Center has officially confirmed that the number of padel courts installed in Italy has surpassed 10,000. To be precise, the total number of courts in Italy now stands at 10,017.

Italy remains firmly established as the second country in the world, after Spain (17,000), in terms of both number of facilities and players — a figure that clearly reflects the country’s passion for padel. The latest update from the FIP Research & Data Analysis Department indicates that 45% of the courts are indoor (4,500 courts), with a total of 3,716 clubs across the country.

To get a clearer picture of padel’s growth in Italy, the number of courts has increased by approximately 29% since 2022, the year of the first Italy Major, when there were 7,798 courts.

Regional Data

The region with the most clubs and courts remains Lazio, with 605 clubs and 2,014 courts (20.1% of the national total); in 2022, there were 1,550 courts (+30%). Lazio is followed by Lombardy with 441 clubs and 1,409 courts (+51%), and Sicily with 337 clubs and 822 courts.
Lombardy leads in the number of indoor courts with over 1,100, ahead of Lazio (760).

Returning to the leading region, Lazio, there are 129 municipalities where the sport can be played (55 in the Rome metropolitan area, 24 in Frosinone, 20 in Viterbo, 18 in Latina, and 12 in Rieti). Lazio has one court for every 2,835 residents — one of the lowest ratios in the world.

Rome, the Capital of Padel

Rome is the Italian city with the highest number of courts (1,563, around 600 of which are indoor) and clubs (417), with an average of 3.7 courts per club and one court for every 2,700 residents — the second-best ratio after another province in Lazio, Latina (2,588).

The growth is significant: in 2022, Rome had 1,220 courts, meaning a 28% increase. And there’s a particularly dazzling statistic: Rome is confirmed as the third city in the world, after Madrid and Barcelona, in terms of the number of padel courts.
The number of players — including both amateurs and competitive players — in the capital is nearing 250,000, out of a total of 1.5 million in Italy: meaning one in every six padel players lives in Rome.
